BUSILY LAYING BIG PIPE – Contractors working on behalf of the Lower Pottsgrove Sewer Authority this week finished laying a run of force main pipe (above) between the township pumping station on Porter Road and the borough of Pottstown’s waste water treatment plant (bottom). In between the two, the pipe crosses several properties, including those of A.D. Moyer Lumber and Home Depot, both on Armand Hammer Boulevard, and The 422 Sportsplex on Industrial Highway. Work along the highway’s curb on Wednesday (March 9, 2011) caused minor delays (below) in traffic routing. More pipe is being laid from Porter Road west toward the Sanatoga interchange of U.S. Route 422.

Veterans Day 2009.
POTTSTOWN PA – The Home Depot home improvement retail store in Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township will continue that company’s annual tradition of honoring U.S. armed services veterans, active duty military personnel and their families by offering them a 10-percent discount on all purchases of up to $2,000 made today through Veterans’ Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009), corporate spokeswoman Jean Niemi said.
To qualify, individuals must present a valid military identification when checking out. Discounts will be taken at the register. The Lower Pottsgrove store is located at 295 Armand Hammer Blvd., Pottstown PA.
Home Depot also makes similar discount offers annually on Memorial Day and Independence Day, Niemi said.

OPHTHALMIC SPECIALISTS OPEN NEW OFFICE – After several months of construction, Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania, which previously had been located on Sunset Drive in Pottstown PA, officially opened its new offices last Monday (Oct. 19, 2009) on about two acres of land in front of the Home Deport store on Armand Hammer Boulevard in Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township. Work on the 9,500-square-foot building began in April. The location is one of three operated by the practice, which is headquartered in Wyomissing PA.

Construction equipment digs in across the entrance from Aldi's.
LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Earth-moving crews Tuesday (April 28, 2009) continued work begun last week on about two acres of property adjacent to The Home Depot store and Aldi’s Supermarket at 295 Armand Hammer Blvd. in the township. Construction is getting under way there for a new medical office building for eye doctors.
The 9,500-square-foot building is being developed for Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania. The ophthalmic specialties practice of 16 physicians currently has offices at 1503 Sunset Dr., Pottstown, as well as in Wyomissing PA and Pottsville PA.
The project first received approval from the Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township Board of Commissioners last October, and was re-approved March 19 (2009) after sewer requirements forced the physicians to lease, rather than buy, the vacant land from Home Depot.

On Armand Hammer Boulevard.
LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Dozens of people employed by Home Depot at its 295 Armand Hammer Blvd. store will return to work today, knowing that – for now at least – they still have work to go to.
The store and its staff may feel some effects from operational changes its parent company announced Monday (Jan. 26, 2009), but they are not included in Home Depot’s plans to close 48 stores nationwide and layoff about 7,000 people.
Rank-and-file employees in Lower Pottsgrove and other remaining Home Depot locations are still eligible for merit-based raises and earned bonuses, the company said in a statement, and it will continue to match contributions to employees’ 401k retirement plans. “We’re very fortunate that the soundness of our company lets us live our value of taking care of our people, even in this time of unprecedented economic hardship,” Home Depot chairman Frank Blake said.
Store closings in 14 states during the next two months – none are in Pennsylvania – are part of plans the company is making to adjust to a lack of business in the nation’s continuing recession. Home Depot’s layoffs were only part of the job losses made public Monday; others occurred at Caterpillar, Sprint Nextel, and five other companies.
Home Depot said it would pull the plug on its 34 EXPO-brand Design Center stores and 14 others, ending jobs for 5,000 people in those locations and related support and distribution centers. Another 2,000 will be laid off as the company decentralizes support functions elsewhere. “These changes will make us a stronger company and will allow us to continue to grow associate employment over the long term to benefit our customers,” according to Blake.
The idea, the company said, was to focus resources on “core orange box stores” like the one in the township. Home Depot’s Lower Pottsgrove store of more than 114,000 square feet qualifies it as the township’s largest retailer by size.
