Falcons’ Season, A Happy Surprise, Ends In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA PA – In an discouraging end to what was otherwise a stellar season that no one expected, the Pottsgrove High School Falcons’ football team ended its quest for more championship glory Friday (Dec. 2, 2011). Their opponents, the Archbishop Wood Vikings, scored the first six times they had the ball en route to a 41-22 victory in PIAA Class AAA quarterfinal playoff game at Northeast High School’s Charles Martin Memorial Stadium in Philadelphia.

Pottsgrove High Celebrates Homecoming This Week

POTTSTOWN PA – It’s Homecoming Week (Oct. 3-9, 2011) at Pottsgrove High School, Kauffman Road, Pottstown PA, and the days are chock-full of activities intended for both students and the public to enjoy, its staff says.

  • Today (Monday, Oct. 3) kicks off the week with “Bum It Day,” during which students get to dress pretty much however they feel (within the boundaries of good taste, of course).
  • Tuesday (Oct. 4) is Spirit Day, and wearing team jerseys will be the desired wardrobe.
  • Wednesday (Oct. 5) will be Dress Up Day, possibly with a preview of things to be seen later during the weekend. Tune up your singing pipes that night, with a karaoke competition beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
  • Thursday (Oct. 6) is Clash Day, and visitors to the high school may want to bring sunglasses to endure its attire. Later that night, from 6:30-8 p.m. in the high school’s south parking lot, the traditional bonfire will blaze away under local fire company supervision.

Friday is when Homecoming comes into its own, according to Pottsgrove School District Athletic and Student Activities Director Gary DeRenzo. Its activities start at 1 p.m. with a pep rally at 1 p.m. in the football stadium, weather permitting. Two hours later, at 3 p.m., the Falcon Football Club and Music League jointly offer a pre-game dinner to members of the football team, marching band, and cheer leading squad.

The week’s official homecoming ceremony is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. in the school auditorium, to be followed at 7 with Pottsgrove’s football game against Methacton High School.

The newest members of the high school alumni honor roll will be recognized Saturday (Oct. 8) during a 12:30 p.m. luncheon at Cutillo’s Restaurant, East High Street, Sanatoga. Tickets are still available; call Charlie Yohn at 610-367-6605.

A fund-raising home run derby sponsored by Mishock Physical Therapy will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the baseball field on the high school stadium’s west side. Bring your best swing and pay only $10 or 10 pitches with which to “knock one outta the park;” $25 for 30 pitches and the chance to win some cash; or bring your own personal pitcher and pay $50 for 30 pitches.

Finally, on Saturday night, the Homecoming Ball opens at 6 p.m. in Sunnybrook Ballroom, 50 Sunnybrook Rd., Sanatoga. Tickets cost $42 and are available from Heather Renn at the high school.
