After A Season Of Wear, Park Field Closed For A Rest

NURSING IT BACK INTO CONDITION – The fall soccer season has ended, and heavily-played fields at Gerald Richards Park in Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township are getting somewhat of a rest from foot traffic. While many fields are still usable, and were open to public activities as recently as Sunday (Nov. 6, 2011), soccer Field 4 on the park’s southeast side needs a little more healing others and has been permanently closed until spring. The signboard at the front entrance to the park on Buchert Road (above), as well as smaller signs on the field itself (inset), ask visitors to keep off the turf there.

BOXES FILLED WITH WARMTH – As of Sunday (Oct. 30, 2009), members of the Pottsgrove Pirates Under-10 Boys Soccer travel team (above and below) had collected more than 200 winter coats during a two-week coat drive that will benefit individuals who need the warm outerwear this winter. The coats, which were collected yesterday and last Saturday (Oct. 17, 2009) at Gerald Richards Park, 2130 Buchert Rd., Pottstown PA, are bound for local organizations that will put them in the hands of children and adults. Team members, their coaches, and family volunteers called upon Lower Pottsgrove residents to donate coats in good condition, free of rips or stains, and clean. The result: boxes filled with comfort. The team is part of the Pottsgrove Soccer Club.

Pottsgrove's Soccer Season Under Way

Pottsgrove's Soccer Season Under Way

SANATOGA PA – With the squeals and yells of happy children, and the cheers of accompanying adults, the Pottsgrove Soccer Club opened its 2009 season Saturday and Sunday (April 4-5, 2009) with matches at the fields in Gerald Richards Park, Buchert Road. Both youth clubs and PeeWee league teams played.

  • Watch a 1m33s Post video, hosted at YouTube, of action in five different PeeWee games played Sunday (April 5, 2009) at 1 p.m. Press the “play” button, above.

Playing in Saturday’s windy weather, with gusts of up to 45 mph, was an interesting task, but Sunday’s much milder temperatures, bright sun and considerably lighter breeze brought many families and supporters out to the fields.

A free, three-day soccer clinic – specifically intended for players in the U-8 to U-12 age brackets – will be conducted April 14-16 (2009; Tuesday through Thursday) from 6-8 p.m. in the park, it was announced Monday (April 6, 2009) during the Lower Pottsgrove (PA) Township Board of Commissioners’ meeting. Former players in the Pottsgrove club, as well as coaches and some current college players, will be on hand to offer tips and drills to those in attendance. A crowd of up to 200 participants is expected. No registration is necessary.

The club’s season runs through May (2009).
