Tri-PAC Stage Opens Once Again To Senior Follies

POTTSTOWN PA – The Senior Theater Project, a troupe of older actors and actresses who take classes and perform at the Tri-County Performing Arts Center, 245 High St., Pottstown PA, fills the stage there this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10, 2011) with a show its members have been working on for the past three months, according to Tri-PAC spokeswoman Betsy Chapman.

“Senior Follies: Singin’ at Sea,” is scheduled for performances each of the two days at 3 p.m. only. Tickets cost $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors age 65 and older, and $8 for children age 12 and younger, and can be purchased online here or by calling 610-970-1199. A limited number of tickets also may be available at the door.

What happens when a group of seniors set off for a cruise to distant shores?, Chapman asks rhetorically. Here’s her answer, in the form of the show’s storyline:

You can be sure there will be a diverse cast of characters, songs and plenty of laughter! We’ll meet a shy librarian who won the trip as a prize in a poetry contest, a retired pro baseball player who decided to go on the cruise incognito to see if people would accept him for who he is, a “ladies man” who works on the ship, and a writer who critiques cruises. Featured songs include “Slow Boat to China,” “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” “Crazy,” “Easy Street,” and “If Ever I Should Leave You.”

The cast includes Ellie Brown, Bob Roebuck, Marian Wray, Earl Boehmer, Mason Craig, Bonnie Heath, Pat Rhoads, Joanne Arnold, Joyce Evans, Mel Hillis, Bets Melli, Bert Melli, Corinne Griffiths, Elizabeth Bauer, Nancy Dolan and Robert Douglass.

Tri-PAC is the home of Village Productions, a non-profit performing arts organization that Chapman said “seeks to strengthen community, inspire creative exploration, educate, and entertain, through the presentation of quality performing arts events and educational opportunities geared toward a diverse audience.”
