Pottstown Hospital Wins Blue Cross Specialty Honor

POTTSTOWN PA – An Independence Blue Cross evaluation of knee and hip replacement practices and patients at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, 1600 E. High St., Pottstown PA, has earned the hospital a designation as a “Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement,” it announced in a press release distributed Wednesday (May 18, 2011).

The “Blue Distinction” honor is a national designation, awarded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield health insurance companies, to medical facilities that have demonstrated quality health care delivery in a variety of treatment areas.

“The … program recognizes hospitals that demonstrate higher levels of performance in providing better specialty care for patients,” said PMMC Chief Operating Officer Sharif Omar. “Facilities like PMMC are helping the Tri-County area achieve this by offering patients safe specialty care delivered by medical teams with expertise.”

PMMC is a 227-bed, acute care hospital with 260 physicians and covering more than 40 medical specialties.
