Pottstown Youth Part Of Texas’ Solar-Power Race
FORT WORTH TX – When a 16-year-old Pottstown PA youth got behind the wheel this week on a high-speed racetrack in Texas, just a month after getting his driver’s license, jitters kicked into top gear. But so did his car, during the 16th annual Hunt-Winston Solar Car Challenge, the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper reported Wednesday (July 20, 2011).
As Jacob Riedel passed some competitors at a heady 20 m.p.h., his nerves subsided, and driving around the track where NASCAR and IndyCars race suddenly became a thrill. Reidel is part of a group from Devon Preparatory School in Chester County, which is the first high-school team from Pennsylvania to compete in the annual solar-powered car race.
