What To Wear, And Avoid, In Pottstown This Year

POTTSTOWN PA – When school buildings open Aug. 29 (2011; Monday) in the Pottstown School District, students in all grade levels – even kindergarten – will be required to comply with the district’s uniform policy, spokesman John Armato reminded parents Saturday (Aug. 13) in an e-mail.

The district Board of School Directors, Armato said, “believes that a uniform policy will address issues related to health, safety, and welfare of the students and the maintenance of positive learning environment.”

So it has published and illustrated (above, and in the gallery below) a table of do’s and don’ts intended to serve as a reference for students and parents alike about what is, and isn’t acceptable school attire. Here’s the list:

3 button polo style shirts

turtle neck shirts

cardigan sweaters or zip up the front sweat

pull over the head sweaters or sweat shirts without hoods over uniform shirts

All items must be solid in the following colors:

 

·
white

·
light blue or

·
navy

 

All items must be woven fabric:

 

·
cotton or cotton blends or

·
light weight knit

 

All items must be appropriately sized:

 

·
shirts may not be overly large or

·
overly tight,

·
shirts and blouses must be able to fasten and
cover all midriff areas

Note: Buttons must be able to fasten.

Armato added that district officials are the final arbiters of approved fashion. “In the event of a question regarding the appropriateness of a particular garment,” he wrote, “building administrators will make the final determination.”
