Limerick Bank To Collect Food For October Project

LIMERICK PA – A branch office of Limerick bankers is prepared next month to become a makeshift grocery store in a worthy cause.

Susquehanna Bank, 536 N. Lewis Rd., Limerick PA, is partnering with True To Life Ministries, a national non-profit organization that operates locally from nearby Pottstown, to collect food for hungry children during a project called “Operation Backpack.” It will run from Oct. 1-31, The Limerick Patch online news service reported Thursday (Sept. 1, 2011).

Area residents are being encouraged to visit the bank during October and donate appropriately packaged and sealed, non-perishable food items. Volunteers will then fill backpacks with the food, and send them home daily and over the weekends with selected local students whose families have identified needs, The Patch reported. The month-long effort represents just a first step, according to branch representative Nakeea Jarvis. She hopes it will extend to other bank branches, and to families beyond Limerick, in the future.

The bank also will promote Operation Backpack from its booth at Limerick Community Day, scheduled for Sept. 24 (2011; Saturday) at Limerick Community Park, Swamp Pike and Ziegler Road, Limerick.
