Near Pottstown Homes, Schuylkill’s No Longer Serene

The Schuylkill flowing past River Road
POTTSTOWN PA – Pottstown resident Karen Van DeGrift, who once looked upon the Schuylkill River flowing near her home as relaxing and charming, on Thursday (Sept. 8, 2011) no longer liked what she sees.
The rain-swollen river inched closer and closer to Van DeGrift’s home, threatening to trap her family on River Road following the soggy weather of earlier this week, Allentown television station WFMZ-TV reported. She wasn’t alone in feeling flooding tension in the borough; Pottstown officials closed a half-dozen roads, and a Red Cross shelter was set up at Pottstown High School, it noted.
