Wholesaler Gives 350 Backpacks To Barth Students

Barth Elementary students proudly show off their new backpacks

POTTSTOWN PA – Students at the Pottstown School District’s Barth Elementary School are packed and ready to learn, district Communications Director John Armato said Tuesday (Oct. 4, 2011), thanks to two benefactors who donated more than 350 supplies-filled backpacks to the school’s children.

The Oaks PA office of LagasseSweet, the nation’s largest wholesale distributor of office supplies and equipment, and the charitable foundation of its corporate parent, United Stationers Supply Company, presented the backpacks this week to Barth Principal Ryan Oxenford. each was crammed full of paper, pencils, pens, crayons, folders, notebooks, rulers, and other school necessities.

Every Barth student in kindergarten through fifth grade received a backpack to take home.

The foundation “established the backpack program as a successful model to help children begin the school year with a proper and complete set of school supplies,” LagasseSweet representative Nadine Engdahl said. “We hope to help make a difference in the lives of young people who will someday become the leaders of our country.”

Oxenford was thankful for the donation. It’s “invaluable to have the proper tools necessary to build … a quality education,” he said. “We are appreciative of partnerships that we have developed with our community, and look forward to continued success through cooperative efforts.”
