Mission Benefits From Cedarville’s Jan. 1 Dinner

POTTSTOWN PA – A traditional New Year’s Day dinner of pork and sauerkraut – one that folklore says will bring a year of good luck to those who consume it – will be held Jan. 1 (2012; Sunday) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cedarville United Methodist Church, 1092 Laurelwood Rd., Pottstown PA, as a fund-raiser for its 2012 adult mission trip to Gulfport MS.

Effects of Hurricane Katrina are still devastating the Central Gulf Coast, six years after the storm struck, a church representative said. In Gulfport alone, 29,970 homes were destroyed; 3,600 sustained major damage, and 1,800 had minor damage. “Today, the people in that area are still hurting, and there continues to be much work … to be done,” she noted. Members of the adult mission trip intend to reach out and lend a hand.

Dinner tickets for adults cost $8; children and 10 and younger cost $4. Advance reservations can be made by calling 484-944-4751; tickets also will be sold at the door. The meal will be preceded by a 10 a.m. worship service, to which the public also is invited.
