Choir Offers Eastern Slavic Concert Sunday In Pottstown
POTTSTOWN PA – A concert of sacred hymns and other liturgical music of the Eastern Slavic tradition will be presented Sunday (April 15, 2012) at 1 p.m. by the Westminster Slavic Choir in a performance at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, 301 Cherry St. The event is free and open to the public.

The choir features students who are either vocal performance or music education majors at the Westminster Choir College division of Westminster College of the Arts in Princeton NJ. Westminster is a four-year residential music college and graduate school that prepares students for careers as professional performers and music leaders.
The choir is directed by senior vocal performance major and Pottstown native Andrew Skitko III. Skitko also serves as the cantor and music director at The Assumption of The Virgin Mary Byzantine Catholic Church of Trenton NJ, where the choir performs about once a month.
The concert will include works by composers Bortniansky, Vedel, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Hurko, as well as traditional chant. Selections will be performed in English as well as Old Slavonic.
Parking is located in the rear of the church. The church is handicapped-accessible via a ramp located from the parking lot. A free-will offering will be taken. The concert is expected to last about one hour.
