Weis Markets Opens Three New PA Locations Saturday
POTTSTOWN PA – Weis Markets, the grocery retailer that operates a store on Shoemaker Road in Pottstown and which recently upgraded its East Philadelphia Avenue store in Gilbertsville, on Saturday (June 16, 2012) at 6 a.m. will open three new locations that resulted from its earlier purchase of former Genuardi’s Family Markets sites, the company announced Monday (June 11, 2012).
The stores are located in Conshohocken, Doylestown and East Norristown PA. Each of their pharmacy units is already running “to minimize prescription service disruption,” Weis noted.
The company said it hired 218 former Genuardi employees to staff the newly added stores, and also added 150 positions. The manpower allows each store “to double the number of cashiers it employs and increase front-end service,” it added.
Founded in 1912, Weis Markets is marking its 100th year of operation in 2012. When it reopens its acquired Delaware Valley units, it will operate 162 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and West Virginia.
