Enjoy Independence Holiday At Pottstown Memorial Park

Enjoy Independence Holiday At Pottstown Memorial ParkPOTTSTOWN PA – Tonight’s Independence Day (Wednesday, July 4, 2012) fireworks for residents of the borough of Pottstown and its municipal neighbors are scheduled to begin at 10 in Memorial Park, at West King and Manatawny streets. Thousands of people are expected to attend, as they do annually, for the free show.

  • A list of the entire day’s activities – including the Patriotic Pottstown 5K run at 8 a.m., the July 4th Holiday Parade on High Street in Pottstown beginning at 10:15 a.m., and a variety of performances, games and rides – appears above, and also can be downloaded here.

Vehicle parking for those in attendance will be in designated areas only. Those driving to the site are advised to arrive at least an hour early, and to anticipate heavy traffic congestion.

Traffic woes will be complicated in part by travel lane limitations due to bridge work on Route 100 about a quarter-mile south of the park, near the exit ramp from U.S. Route 422, and by the now 20-month-old closure of the Keim Street bridge between Route 724 and Industrial Highway.

Pottstown Area Rapid Transit buses will operate a today on a schedule intended to give public transportation access to the events; see an article in The (Pottstown PA) Mercury newspaper, here.

Public donations to help support the activities is being requested. They are planned and coordinated by Independence Day Ltd. Inc., a non-profit volunteer group incorporated to provide the hometown celebration that receives no government funding and depends on donations of money, time, professional services, and in-kind gifts.

If you enjoy the day or any part of it, your contribution while at the park – or mailed to the July 4th Committee, c/o Pottstown Parks and Recreation Department, 100 High St., Pottstown PA 19464 – would be greatly appreciated.
