Genesis Offers Pottstown Classes On Managing Money

POTTSTOWN PA – A series of three live classes to help local residents learn how to improve their credit scores, reduce their debts, and make good decisions with their money is planned for three consecutive Wednesday evening sessions Sept. 19, 26 and Oct. 3 from 7-9 p.m. by Genesis Housing Corporation, the non-profit organization responsible for renovating a number of homes in the borough.

The free classes all will be held in the offices of the Mosaic Community Land Trust, 10 S. Hanover St. Advance reservations are recommended, and can be made by calling Genesis at 610-275-4357, or online here.

Genesis said the classes are designed to help:

  • Understand credit, with information on credit scores, improving scores, re-establishing credit, and dealing with debt.  Class participants can obtain a free credit report with scores from the three major credit reporting services (Sept. 19);
  • Manage money, with information on preparing realistic budgets that are more than just monthly bills, prioritizing spending in tough times, and understanding how current spending impacts future financial options (Sept. 26). And, with;
  • Home buying basics, including information the home buying process, including finding a real estate agent, home inspections, agreements of sale, mortgages and first-time home-buyer grant programs (Oct. 3).

Nikki Holcroft, an award winning and certified housing counselor, will teach the classes. Ms. Holcroft has more than 25 years’ experience working as a housing counselor, mortgage banker and community lender. The Pottstown classes are funded, in part, by Montgomery County, with additional funding from Susquehanna Bank.
