Pottstown Shelter Not Purr-fect, But Warm And Dry

EVEN THE PETS WERE TAKEN CARE OF – One of three Montgomery County shelters created by the American Red Cross for those seeking refuge Sunday and Monday (Oct. 28 and 29, 2012) from Hurricane’s Sandy’s mighty winds and drenching rain was set up – as it was last year during Hurricane Irene – at Pottstown High School, 750 N. Washington St., Pottstown PA. Guests there received meals and a place to sleep safely and in relative comfort. Their pets, like this caged and cautious cat seen in a Twitter photo distributed by Brandie Kessler, were welcomed too. There was a momentary scare Monday night when the high school and shelter quarters lost electrical power, but visitor Daphne Hart reported generators there “kicked in and are providing emergency lights.” Kessler said a swath of Pottstown along High Street east of Keim Street was without power for some time. It was “all in the dark ’til at least McDonald’s,” at 1428 E. High.
