PMMC Owner Moving Its Business Operations To Easton
POTTSTOWN PA – Business operations for Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, long conducted inside the hospital at 1600 E. High St., will be moved by its corporate parent, Community Health Systems of Tennessee, and consolidated in Easton PA with similar operations from other hospitals, according to The (Pottstown PA) Mercury newspaper.
The Mercury on Thursday (Sept. 19, 2013) said PMMC spokeswoman Debra Bennis confirmed the transition affects 30 employees, all of whom are “are being offered a position with the central business office or another area of our hospital,” she said.
The “centralized, external office” in Easton will “keep hospital resources focused on our patients” and “enhance operational efficiencies through technological advances for scheduling appointments,” Bennis added.
Office workers were informed of the move by the hospital’s chief executive and chief financial officers during a Sept. 11 meeting, The Mercury said. Some “are applying for the new jobs, but others were not sure they wanted to re-locate or commute to Easton, which is 47 miles away by car,” it reported.
