Small Locomotive Owners, Local Officials Ride The Rail
CRUISING THE RAILS SOLO IN BOYERTOWN – A group of train enthusiasts who own about a dozen gas-powered locomotives, big enough only for an engineer and a rider or two, arrived in Boyertown last Tuesday (Oct. 22, 2013) to enjoy two trips between Pottstown and Boyertown on the historic “Secret Valley Line” rail spur maintained and being promoted as a tourist attraction by the Colebrookdale Railroad Preservation Trust. One run was limited to the locomotive owners. During the other, local dignitaries joined the trip to see for themselves how beautiful the train ride is, and understand its future potential, according to the Boyertown Farmers’ Market Newsletter. The trust and Nathaniel Guest “have worked tirelessly to establish” the tourist rail service, it said. “This rail line can help secure Boyertown’s future by preserving its past,” the newsletter added.
