CARLISLE PA – Giant Food Stores, which is headquartered in Carlisle and which operates supermarkets in Stowe, North Coventry, Gilbertsville, Royersford and Phoenixville, has donated $5 million to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for construction of the hospital’s new Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care, the company announced Friday (Jan. 24, 2014).

The facility is scheduled to open in Center City in 2015, and will feature 12 floors of integrated clinical care facilities and patient, family and visitor amenities. Its 9,000-square-foot lobby will be named for the company. Filled with natural light, the lobby will offer views onto a landscaped plaza, with a two-story, glass-walled ramp winding overhead to the second floor.

Giant previously contributed nearly $8.5 million to support patient care at the hospital, as well as the remodel its physical therapy gym. Friday’s contribution announcement brings its total contributions to nearly $13.5 million.
