Area Electric Utility Wins Safety Awards

20120518-PowerTransmissionLines-GoogleImagesREADING PA – Metropolitan Edison, the electric utility company that serves all or parts of 10 municipalities in the greater Pottstown area, has been recognized for outstanding safety performance by the Energy Association of Pennsylvania, a utilities’ trade association.

FirstEnergy Corp., which owns Metropolitan Edison, said Thursday (Sept. 11, 2014) the company won the association’s 2013 Safety Achievement Award, for having a low number of injuries based on employees working 100,000 hours or more; and its Motor Vehicle Fleet Safety Improvement Award, for reducing the number of motor vehicle incidents in 2013 compared to 2012.

The safety awards are selected annually by the association’s Accident Prevention Committee.

Locally, Met-Ed – as the company is sometimes called – serves residents in Bally, Bechtelsville, Birdsboro, and Boyertown boroughs; and Amity, Douglass, Lower Pottsgrove, Upper Frederick, New Hanover and Upper Pottsgrove townships.
