20141004-Latest-CulturalEducationPOTTSTOWN PA – A $400,000 grant that will help the Pottstown School District open or expand community learning centers to boost student achievement was among those awarded as part of a $23.1 million funding effort in 29 Pennsylvania counties, according to the state Department of Education.

The Pottstown grant, announced Monday (Sept. 29, 2014), was one of only two received in Montgomery County; the other, of $399,000, when to the Norristown Area School District. Both are under the federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers program, which intends to provide “enrichment opportunities” like cultural, social or artistic activities that students might not receive at school or at home.

“These grants will provide educational opportunities that are focused on complementing, supplementing and enhancing the work being done in the classroom by teachers and students,” Gov. Tom Corbett said.
