Diabetes Program Seeks Pottstown Volunteers

20141119-DiabetesFlyerPOTTSTOWN PA – Pottstown area adults age 35 and older who are living with or are at risk of diabetes, and who have not received formal diabetes education during the past year, are being sought to participate in new educational sessions being tested by the National Diabetes Education Program.

Selected participants will be asked to attend a 2-hour, hands-on educational program about a diabetes website that contains helpful information and resources concerning the disease. They also will be asked to complete three 15- to 20-minute online surveys, and possibly a telephone interview.

The goal is to improve the diabetes website being tested for future patient use.

  • Program participation is limited, so those interested are asked to call Debbie Zlomek, RN, CDE, with Pottstown Medical Specialists Inc. at 484-318-0566, or send her an e-mail at dzlomek@pmsiforlife.com. The 2-hour educational session has been scheduled for Dec. 9 (2014; Tuesday) at 6 p.m. in Pottsgrove Middle School, 1351 N. Hanover St., Pottstown PA.

Participants must have access to and be able to use the Internet regularly. They also must be able to speak, read and write in English. Those who are chosen and successfully complete the program and surveys will receive $25 in addition to the education.

The National Diabetes Education Program is a program of the National Institutes for Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
