River Heritage Area Racks Up Year-End Numbers

POTTSTOWN PA – The Schuylkill River Heritage Area, 140 College Dr., spent a busy year promoting river gateways, newly opened trail sections, bicycle sharing and historic rides, art shows and exhibits, and several other activities, according to its Dec. 8 (2014) blog post titled “A Look Back on How We Spent 2014.”
The blog offers details on this numerical run-down of the area’s year-end accomplishments:
- 5 River of the Year lecture series events;
- 2 new Gateway Centers;
- 1 Schuylkill River Trail section, added to a new 2.2-mile piece in Leesport PA;
- 60 Pedal and Paddle program participants;
- 1,235 Bike Pottstown and Bike Schuylkill shares;
- 57.5 miles pedaled by 96 cyclists in its “Pedaling Through Our National Parks” ride;
- 1,000 River of the Year posters handed out at events;
- 82 art pieces exhibited in its 11th annual Scenes of the Schuylkill art show;
- 42 Revolutionary War illustrations exhibited in two national parks;
- $337,000 awarded in Schuylkill River Restoration Fund Grants to 7 projects;
- 3 Schuylkill Outdoor Leadership Odyssey programs involving 40 at-risk students;
- 198 paddlers from 10 states and France in the 16th annual Schuylkill River Sojourn, including 64 who took the full 112-mile week-long paddle; and, at top,
