Pottstown Woman Charged With Retail Theft

SANATOGA PA – A 27-year-old Pottstown woman was arrested Friday (Oct. 2, 2015) by Lower Pottsgrove police on a charge of retail theft, which allegedly occurred at the Redner’s Warehouse Market, 1300 N. Charlotte St.

Ofc. Kevin Black reported he was called to Redner’s at 6:12 p.m. by its loss prevention officer, who claimed borough resident Rebekka Smoyer was observed removing the contents of a large-size package of personal grooming items and inserting them into a box containing the same product in a smaller quantity. Smoyer then attempted to pay for the smaller size while concealing the additional contents, the Redner’s employee alleged.

Black said he determined Smoyer did not have any prior convictions for retail theft. She was transported to the Pottstown Police Department, where she was processed on a charge of summary retail theft and released.

A later hearing date will be scheduled in the Sanatoga courtroom of Magisterial District Justice Edward C. Kropp Sr., according to a police press release.
