Weather Postpones Super-Fast Internet Briefing

POTTSTOWN PA – Representatives of a company that plans to install an ultra-high-speed, high-bandwidth Internet fiber cable system from New York City though Pottstown to Ashburn VA were to have been featured speakers Monday (Jan. 25, 2016) in a briefing for area businesses and residents, Pottstown Area Industrial Development Inc. (PAID) announced, but the event has been postponed due to the weather.

It will be re-scheduled at a later date, PAID said in an early Monday morning announcement.

A York PA-based firm, United Fiber & Data (UFD), currently “is building (an) ultra-high capacity fiber broadband to improve redundancy, capacity, and safety” along the Amtrak and Interstate 95 corridor, PAID indicated. Neighboring communities are likely to have opportunities to tap the future cable through Pottstown to maximize Internet use, it added.

UFD’s future presentation is part of what PAID described as “The Pennsylvania Gigabit Revolution,” a broadband initiative to maximize every possible synergy for six “off-ramps” from an ultra-high capacity fiber broadband system to be constructed in 2016.”
