Philharmonic Returns to Pottstown, Phoenixville
PHILADELPHIA PA – Musical moments from Broadway shows that will be performed during December (2016) in Phoenixville, and a cello concerto and other pieces planned for next May (2017) in Pottstown, are local highlights in a full series of concert events from the Pennsylvania Philharmonic Orchestra due to begin during October and run through almost the end of the current academic year, according to a press release.

The Philharmonic’s season starts Oct. 27 with a Beethoven Masterworks program in York; then transitions separately into Broadway tunes; pieces by Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Bernstein and Ravel; and ends in West Chester with the concerto by Dvorak and a symphony based on folk tunes. With the four different sets, the orchestra will criss-cross the state and perform in 13 different venues.
Locally:
- On Dec. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Phoenixville Area School District Performing Arts Center, favorite witches Elphaba (Dee Roscioli) and Glinda (Emily Rozek) – from the Tony Award-winning show “Wicked” – take listeners back to Oz to share best musical moments. They will include the songs “Popular,” “Defying Gravity,” “For Good,” and “Over the Rainbow;” plus all-time favorites from “Phantom of the Opera,” “Gypsy,” “All That Jazz,” “Spamalot,” and “Carmen.”
- On May 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Pottstown High School auditorium, the Philharmonic celebrates great works by Antonin Dvorak. Renowned cellist Zuill Bailey interprets the Cello Concerto in A Major, and conductor Michael Butterman and the Philharmonic share the cheery, lyrical Symphony No. 8, based on the Bohemian folk music. The Brahms Academic Festival Overture completes the program.
