NorCo DUI Arrest Follows Alleged 422 Speeding

NORTH COVENTRY PA – A 43-year-old Pottstown man, who North Coventry Township police allege was speeding on U.S. Route 422 West near Keim Street, was arrested Dec. 8 (2016; Thursday) on charges of driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and several other offenses, according to a department report.

Scheduled to be arraigned on the charges the next day (Dec. 9) was David Ottey Jr. of Berks Street, Pottstown.

Police claim they spotted a car Dec. 8 at about 10:37 p.m. moving at a speed of more than 82 miles an hour along a stretch of 422 where the posted speed limit was 40. “The vehicle was also observed crossing over the white painted fog line on several occasions,” they reported.

After making a traffic stop, police said they found Ottey “was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.” During their subsequent investigation, they said they “determined Ottey was operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and was subsequently arrested. Also a pipe commonly used for smoking marijuana was recovered from within the vehicle.”

Ottey was transported to the Pottstown Police Department, where he submitted to further testing. His blood alcohol content was found to have exceeded the legal limit, police indicated. He was “released to a sober adult,” the report said.
