Bridge Beam Removal To Close 422 West Lane

Bridge replacement work is continuing on U.S. Route 422 West through Lower Pottsgrove

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Lane restrictions are scheduled next week on westbound U.S. Route 422 in Lower Pottsgrove, between the Sanatoga and Route 724 interchanges, for road shoulder repairs and removal of a bridge beam, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.

The shoulder repairs are expected to take only seven hours, and are set for Monday (Jan. 16, 2017) from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will require closing the right lane of 422 West between the exits during the period, PennDOT said.

The bulk of the week’s traffic disruption likely will occur Tuesday through Thursday (Jan. 17-19), also from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, as the left lane of 422 West similarly closes so the bridge beam can be taken out.

Progress of the work will depend on the weather. Traffic back-ups may occur, PennDOT added, and suggested drivers allow extra time when traveling though the area.

Both operations are part of PennDOT’s $73.3 million project to rebuild 1.6 miles of U.S. 422 between the Sanatoga and Route 724, and construct new bridges over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks. The project is projected to be finished in October 2018.
