A Volunteer’s Lessons Help Honor Old Glory

A Volunteer's Lessons Help Honor Old GlorySHOWING OFF AMERICAN PRIDE – Nicholas Woodley and Matthew Berry, fourth grade members of the student safety patrol at Pottstown’s Lincoln Elementary School (at top and below), received an expert’s lessons last week on how to properly display and fold the American flag. Area resident Billy Worrell, a member of American Legion George A. Amole / BG Elmer S. Friedberg Post 244 in Pottstown, was at the school to pick-up his granddaughter when he noticed the boys trying to fold the flag. That’s a task at which Worrell – a Navy veteran, legion Honor Guard member, and former Boy Scoutmaster – excels. Pottstown schools’ Director of Community Relations John Armato had his camera handy as Worrell watched the boys lower the flag. Then he diagrammed how the folding should proceed, and helped them neatly package the Stars And Stripes.
