Upper Salford Tower Plans Prompts Meeting
UPPER SALFORD PA – Because the Upper Salford Volunteer Fire Company believes there’s a need for more public information on its proposal to erect a cell phone antenna tower, it plans to hold a community meeting on the topic Tuesday (Oct. 3, 2017) beginning at 7 p.m. at its firehouse, 782 Old Skippack Rd. The meeting is free to attend and open to the public.
- This event has been added to The Schwenksville Post calendar.
The fire company is asking permission from the township Zoning Hearing Board to allow Verizon Communications to erect a 100-foot tower near solar panels already on the firehouse grounds. Zoning board approval is needed because the tower would not normally be allowed within the institutional zoning district where the firehouse is located.
Verizon hopes to lease land from the fire company for the tower. The plan would give Verizon better wireless coverage across portions of the area, and also provide a long-term revenue stream for the fire company. The township Board of Supervisors has made it clear they will oppose the project, and have directed its solicitor to challenge the firefighters’ request when the zoning board meets Oct. 12 (Thursday).
“Every effort will be made to address (public) questions and concerns at the meeting,” the fire company said in a post on its Facebook page.
