LGS’ 2017 Safety Topic At May 16 Open House
LIMERICK PA – Safety performance of the Limerick Generating Station nuclear power plant during 2017 will be discussed by staff members of the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission during an open house scheduled to be held next Wednesday (May 16, 2018) from 4-5:30 p.m. in the temporary offices of Limerick Township, 155 S. Limerick Rd., the NRC announced.
- This event has been added to The Post Publications calendar.
Both units in Limerick operated safely during 2017, the NRC reported in advance. Agency employees responsible for plant inspections, including resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available during the meeting to discuss the operating performance of plant’s owner, Exelon Nuclear.
At year’s end, the agency added, “all inspection findings and performance indicators were of very low safety significance. As a result, Units 1 and 2 remain under the NRC’s normal level of oversight, which entails thousands of hours of inspection each year.” Findings or indicators with more than very low safety significance trigger increased NRC oversight.
The NRC’s annual assessment letter regarding Limerick, as well as the meeting notice, are available on its website. Information on current performance for Limerick units 1 and 2 is also available.
