Creek Trash Gone, Trail Bridge Now Repaired
BRIDGE REPAIRS COMPLETED – Contractors have successfully removed a log jam and build up of trash from beneath the Douglassville PA bicycle and pedestrian bridge along the Thun Section of the Schuylkill River Trail, just west of Morlatton Village. The half-mile section of trail that was closed throughout the project has now re-opened. Because the trail surface in that area was damaged by heavy equipment used to pull logs from the water, the trail has also been repaired and resurfaced (above). A “staggering amount of trash” was removed from the pileup, the Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area reported in a Saturday (May 12, 2018) e-mail. “We can’t thank our volunteers enough for helping us pull out thousands of plastic bottles and other debris,” it added.
