Area Students Ready Again For Penn State Thon

Area Students Ready Again For Penn State ThonSTATE COLLEGE PA – Dozens of graduates from Perkiomen Valley, Pottsgrove, Pottstown, Spring-Ford, and Boyertown high schools are expected to participate Feb. 15-17 (2019; Friday through Sunday) in this year’s edition of THON. The annual no-sitting, no-sleeping Penn State dance marathon raises money and awareness for childhood cancer.

Although the dates have been known for months, they were officially announced Wednesday (Jan. 16).

Leading up to the big weekend, according to THON statistics, about 16,500 students will have volunteered during the past 12 months to make THON a success. Overall since 1977, THON has raised more than $157 million for the Four Diamonds pediatric cancer program at Penn State Children’s Hospital, its representatives said. The 2018 total alone exceeded $10 million.

The money raised ensures 4,000 families affected by childhood cancer and treated at the hospital never see a medical bill.
