Registration Open For Fall 2019 PAL Dek Hockey
POTTSTOWN PA – Registration is open now through Aug. 31 (2019; Saturday) for the 2019 fall dek hockey season, the 32nd sponsored by the Pottstown Area Police Athletic League, with play scheduled to run from the weekend after Labor Day to the weekend before Thanksgiving. The league hopes to break its previous fall registration records, according to Program Director Ian Lawrence.
Registrations costs $75 for players up to age 18. Player groups are divided by age ranges based on birth dates, with the:
- Teenage division involving those born between Sept. 1, 2001, and Aug. 31, 2005 (generally, 9th-12th graders);
- Cadet, Sept. 1, 2005, and Aug. 31, 2008 (6th-8th graders);
- Beaver, Sept. 1, 2008, and Aug. 31, 2011 (3rd-5th graders); and
- Penguin, Sept. 1, 2011, and Aug. 31, 2013 or younger (1st-2nd graders).
An instructional program, offered for players age 4-6 (in pre-kindergarten or kindergarten) costs $55. It’s held at New Hanover Township Community Park on Tuesday and Thursday nights only.
All players are welcome to “play up” a level. An additional $25 will be charged to those playing in two divisions: their natural level and the next division up. Weekend game times are scheduled in descending age order, starting with teenage in the morning to penguin in the late afternoon. Practices are held one night a week. If you have weeknight conflicts, please mark it on the registration check-box.
All league games are held at West Pottsgrove Elementary School, although some penguin practices may be in New Hanover. Teams are guaranteed at least 12 games, including double-elimination playoffs, and about 12 practices.
Four pieces of required equipment can be rented from PAL during registration: helmets ($10), gloves ($5), elbow pads ($5), and leg pads ($5). All players are required to obtain their own stick. Players can also choose the goalie interest option on their registration.
Registrants should expect to hear about your team during the first week of September. Players receiving equipment will be contacted in late August.
