Deadline Ahead For Vietnam Commemorative Pins
POTTSTOWN PA – Lapel pins available for U.S. veterans, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, will be distributed Sept. 28 (2019; Saturday) by Rep. Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania’s 4th Congressional District during Pottstown’s annual Veterans’ Community Day event. But those who hope to receive pins have only two more days to confirm their attendance at the planned presentation ceremony.
Any living United States veteran who served in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time between Nov. 1, 1955, and May 15, 1975, regardless of location, is an eligible recipient for a pin. By law, it must “be presented in a dignified manner to each veteran during public events held in communities … for thanks for their service and sacrifice.
The Sept. 28 ceremony, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on the island in Memorial Park, 75 W. King St., meets that requirement.
The pins must be ordered in advance, however, and Dean’s office needs to submit its request by no later than Saturday (Aug. 17), according to community day organizers.
Recipients only, and not a third party, must attend the event in person to receive their pins. Organizers ask those eligible to confirm their attendance Saturday or earlier by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
