Dog-Gone Good: Local Firm Wins Philly Mag Honor

POTTSTOWN PA – Hefty Hounds LLC, a Pottstown-based online retailer catering to the market for specialized apparel that fits larger-breed and hard-to-fit dogs, has been named by Philadelphia magazine as its 2019 Best of Philly winner for “Best Clothes for Big Pups” in the Shopping & Style category.

Hefty Hounds’ owners Yolonda and Pernell Taylor said their company offers items to fit dogs usually weighing 30 or more pounds. It carries vests, raincoats, safety jackets, flotation devices, harnesses, coats, t-shirts, and tank tops to keep man’s best friend warm, dry, and comfortable, the couple noted.

The woman- and minority-owned company supports several animal-related non-profits, and the couple also volunteers their time in activities organized by Chosen 300 Ministries to benefit the homeless.

Making the magazine’s annual list of top places in Philadelphia and its suburbs to dine, shop, be entertained, find help, keep healthy, and cater to kids and teens is an honor coveted by many business owners. Its publicity often helps attract new customers and boosts revenues, past winners have reported.

“This is a very exciting award” for her fast-growing company, CEO Yolonda Taylor agreed. “It’s been our dream to expand our clothing line to dogs weighing over 100-plus pounds, and start production on our designs. This exposure will assist us in connecting with more big pups and pet non-profit organizations.”
