Three Deer Hunts Planned On SCI Phoenix LandCOLLEGEVILLE PA – A third lottery has been added for hunters interested in harvesting adult antlerless deer in coming months on the grounds of SCI Phoenix, the state correctional institution located at 1200 Mokychic Dr., the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections has announced. Applications must be received by mail only, with a deadline of Nov. 4.

Last year’s two lottery-driven hunts were considered highly successful by state officials.

The latest events are scheduled for:

  • Dec. 27 (2019; Friday), limited to youths age 12-17;
  • Jan. 8 (2020; Wednesday), limited to veterans and first responders;
  • and Jan. 22 (Wednesday), open to the general public.

Fifty hunters will be selected in drawings for each day of the hunt. Shotguns are the only weapons authorized, and ammunition is limited to only slugs. Weapons and ammunition will be inspected by the Pennsylvania Game Commission before each hunt starts.

Here are lottery guidelines, according to the state:

  • All state laws and regulations must be observed and will be strictly enforced;
  • Lottery entrants must possess a valid Pennsylvania Hunting License;
  • Lottery entrants must possess a Management Unit 5C antlerless deer tag(s) to enter the lottery; and
  • All youth must be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older. The accompanying adult also must possess a valid and current Pennsylvania Hunting License.

Entrance into the lottery may be completed by submitting a 3”x5” index card to this address:

  • A separate 3″x5″ card must be submitted for each date that the entrant is entering the lottery;
  • The index card(s) shall be inserted inside an envelope containing the sender’s return mailing address and the facility mailing address; and
  • The index card must be received at the mailing address no later than Nov. 4.

For the youth hunt

The following information must be recorded on the index card:

  • Hunter’s first and last name;
  • CID number;
  • Antlerless deer license number;
  • Adult first and last name who will be accompanying the youth hunter;
  • CID number for the adult accompanying the youth hunter; and
  • Phone number and e-mail address

For the veteran and first responder, and public hunts

The following information must be recorded on the index card:

  • Hunter’s first and last name;
  • CID number;
  • Antlerless deer license number;
  • Military service or first responder organization (required only for the Veteran/First Response Hunt);
  • Any request for special accommodations (required only for the Veteran/First Response Hunt); and
  • Phone number and e-mail address

Notifications to those selected for participation in the hunt and additional directions related to registration on the date of the hunt will be provided by telephone notification.
