Best Buy Closing Its Upland Square Location

UPLAND SQUARE BEST BUY CLOSING – The Best Buy electronics retail store in the Upland Square Shopping Center, at Route 100 and Upland Square Drive in West Pottsgrove Township, will close Nov. 2 (2019; Saturday), the company is announcing on signage that greets customers as they enter its front doors (at top). Store employees said Monday (Oct. 21) they were recently notified by management of the impending closing, and were told the company had declined to renew its lease. Both the township and Pottsgrove School District benefit from real estate taxes imposed on Upland Square property, and the district also benefits from a mercantile tax on goods sold in its stores. Best Buy has been a fixture in the center since its debut in 2009, and at the time was the 30th store the company had opened in Pennsylvania. Best Buy also operates nearby stores in Collegeville, King of Prussia, and Reading PA. Coincidentally on Nov. 2, according to the Pittsburgh Business Times, Best Buy also is closing a store in the Pittsburgh suburb of Homestead PA.
