More Than 50 Schools At College Fair Tonight

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Representatives of more than 50 colleges, universities, career, technical, vocational and trade schools, and related organizations descend this afternoon and evening (Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019) upon the gym at Pottsgrove High School on Kauffman Road to participate in the 2019 edition of the TriCounty Area Chamber of Commerce annual college fair.

The event, from 4-8 p.m., is free and open to the public. Parents and students from high schools across western Montgomery, eastern Berks, and northern Chester counties are encouraged to attend, and get what for many may be a first glimpse of how and where they might spend a portion of their educational experience beyond graduation.

“It’s going to give them a good look at their options,” Pottsgrove School District communications director Gary DeRenzo said of students Tuesday (Oct. 22) as he discussed the fair with the district Board of School Directors. Hundreds of people are anticipated to attend.

The event in years past been held at venues like Coventry Mall, where shoppers and families could roam among presenters’ tables to gather information. Pottsgrove offered to play host this year in part to take a heightened role in broader community activities, district Superintendent Dr. William Shirk has said. Shirk serves as a member of the chamber board of directors.

The college fair, which is combined with a community business expo, this year marks its 32nd anniversary. It is being co-sponsored by Tower Health’s Pottstown Hospital. Food vendors also will be on location outside the gym to provide dinner options, the chamber indicated. They include Bruster’s Ice Cream, Dallas French Fries, Farmstead Foods, and Hillbilly BBQ.
