Pottstown Investigates Distraction Burglary
POTTSTOWN PA – Elderly residents who occupy a home on Winding Road became apparent burglary victims Thursday (Nov. 21, 2019) sometime between 10:30 and 11 a.m., the Pottstown Police Department reported, after a pair of white males distracted them and took several jewelry items.
The men came to their property “claiming to be from the water company,” the department said on its Facebook page. While one was interacting with the residents, the other allegedly made his way through the property and made off with “multiple pieces of jewelry.” The report did not place an estimate on their value.
Police hope to find, identify, and capture the suspects. Video surveillance from the area shows a suspicious tan minivan was circling the area around the time the incident occurred, the department stated. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Det. Brooke Fisher at 610-970-6578.
Distraction-related crimes occur far too often, police indicate. Anyone claiming to be from or representing a utility company – electrical, gas, telephone, cable, or others – should be asked to verify their identity with appropriate credentials.
