Aqua PA Buys Water Systems, Expands Coverage
UPPER PROVIDENCE PA – Aqua Pennsylvania – a subsidiary of Aqua America Inc., the water services utility that already serves customers in a portion of Upper Providence – said Wednesday (Dec. 4, 2019) it completed a $3.5 million purchase of three water systems previously served by Phoenixville borough water.
That acquisition increases the number of township customers within the company service area, it said.
“We are excited to expand our services in an area where we serve water to an adjacent municipality, which is also home to our largest surface water plant,” said Aqua Pennsylvania President Marc Lucca. “A long-standing relationship” between the company and Phoenixville “will make for a smooth transition and integration” of the new customer base, he added.
The company also is in line to buy Cheltenham Township’s waste water system, with about 10,200 connections. That purchase recently was approved by the state Public Utility Commission.
Aqua America is one of the largest U.S.-based, publicly traded water utilities. It reportedly serves nearly 3 million people in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Illinois, Texas, New Jersey, Indiana and Virginia.
