Man Charged With Assault In Custody Exchange

SANATOGA PA – What began Wednesday (Dec. 11, 2019) in the Sanatoga parking lot of the Lower Pottsgrove Police Department as a scheduled custody exchange of children, beneath the watchful eyes of its security cameras, turned into a case of alleged assault of a female victim apparently witnessed by the scared youths, according to the department’s CrimeWatch website.

The youngsters ran to the police station entrance as officers inside ran out to the woman’s defense, took her alleged assailant into custody, and “immediately” transported him to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Eagleville PA where he was arraigned, the web report stated. The woman required medical attention, it added.

Joshua “Josh” Anthony Angelucci of Pottstown, age 39, has been charged by police with one count of aggravated assault, two separate counts of simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and two counts of harassment, court records show.

Police said Angelucci met the woman (the time was not specified) for the exchange as planned in the parking lot at the police station, 2199 Buchert Rd. “The two had a conversation and Josh Angelucci then began assaulting the victim, punching and shoving her, pulling her hair, and scaring the children,” police wrote. They did not reveal the nature of the argument.

It was the children who “ran into the police station seeking assistance, as officers on station ran outside to intervene.”

“The victim was assisted by officers into a safe environment, first aid was provided, and an ambulance was summoned to the police station for medical care,” the report noted. Following his arraignment, police said, Angelucci’s “bail was set at $50,000 cash.” A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for Dec. 20 in the Pottstown courtroom of Magisterial District Justice Edward C. Kropp Sr., records indicated.
