Pottstown Man Charged Following Mall Incident
NORTH COVENTRY PA – Reports of a man who was allegedly “yelling and screaming” Saturday (Feb. 1, 2020; the time was not specified) inside the food court at Coventry Mall, 351 W. Schuylkill Rd., brought North Coventry Township police to the scene, but upon their arrival they found he had fled into the mall.
Officers, according to the police department’s CrimeWatch website, said they later located Ronald Lee Smoyer II, age 45, of East High Street, Pottstown, in the bathroom at the Kohl’s department store in the mall, “again screaming and yelling.” He was arrested for public intoxication. During a search, police allege they found Smoyer “to be in possession of several empty wax baggies commonly used to package narcotics, and a hypodermic needle.”
Smoyer initially was incarcerated at Pottstown Borough Hall until his arraignment. Court records show he faced charges of two counts of use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and one count each of public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. He was later released on an unsecured bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday (Feb. 6).
