Blot Out Lyme Disease With Schwenksville Ink
SCHWENKSVILLE PA – Get a tat, squash a tick.
No, that’s not the slogan promoting an event coming Saturday (Feb. 8, 2020) from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Studio 29 Tattoo, 239 Main St. It might as well be, though, given plans by the local tattoo and piercing shop to continue with a nationwide effort that raises awareness and funds for expanded research into lyme disease.
Lyme is an infectious disease, generally spread by ticks and their bites, that initially creates fevers, headaches and tiredness. If left untreated, its symptoms can include the loss of the ability to move one or both sides of the face, joint pains, severe headaches with neck stiffness, or heart palpitations. Later effects may extend to repeated episodes of joint pain and swelling.
Lyme Warrior, a national non-profit organization that helps lyme disease victims and researchers, every February organizes efforts by tattoo artists across the country to donate some or all of their proceeds on a single day to its cause. This year, as it also did in 2019, Studio 29 Tattoo is among dozens of shops joining Lyme Warrior’s “Ink to End Lyme” 2020 campaign.
