Collegeville Man Found Shot At Borough Home
COLLEGEVILLE PA – A 55-year-old Collegeville man suffered a gunshot wound and died after he allegedly attempted to force his way Saturday (Feb. 16, 2020) at about 11:30 p.m. into a East Third Avenue home, according to Collegeville police and Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele. They jointly issued a media release on the incident, which continues under investigation.
No other people were reported injured, and Steele claimed “there is no known public safety concern at this time.” The identity of the victim was not released, pending notification of family members.
The police department indicated officers responded to 67 E. 3rd Ave. in the borough after receiving a report of a shooting. They found the male gunshot victim inside the residence upon their arrival. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted by the county Coroner’s Office.
The man allegedly was shot by an occupant of the home, the release stated. It was not reported if the man was known to any of the home’s occupants, or if he was armed. The incident is being treated by police and the county Detectives Bureau as a homicide, authorities added.
