Pottstown Social Security Offices Open March 9
POTTSTOWN PA – The federal Social Security Administration western Montgomery County offices, currently located in Royersford, will end operations there, move, and re-open March 9 (2020; Monday) at 9 a.m. in its new 80 Robinson St., Pottstown site, the agency confirmed.
Its occupancy of 39 W. Ridge Pike, Royersford, will end at the 4 p.m. close of business Friday (March 6), it added. Administration officials did not offer a reason for the move in a media release distributed by e-mail.
Most people may never have a need to see the new facility, though, they said.
That’s because much of the agency’s business with the public also is moving … online, here. “Most Social Security services do not require the public to take time to visit an office,” according to one of its public affairs specialists. Instead, more are creating personalized, web-based Social Security accounts instead, to “check personal information and conduct business with” the agency.
“If they already receive Social Security benefits, they can start or change direct deposit online, and if they need proof of their benefits they can print or download a current Benefit Verification Letter from their account,” the specialist continued.
People not yet receiving benefits can use an online account to get a personalized Social Security Statement, which provides earnings history information, as well as estimates of future benefits. The portal also includes a retirement calculator and links to information about other online services, such as applications for retirement, disability, and Medicare benefits.
Pennsylvania residents also may request a replacement Social Security card online if they meet certain requirements.
Social Security services are available by toll-free phone as well; call 1-800-772-1213. But if you’re just curious to see what the Robinson Street offices look like, or you prefer meeting with an agency representative in person, they’re open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
