POTTSTOWN PA – All internal and community events at any Montgomery County Community College location, including the western campus in Pottstown, have been canceled through March 30 (2020; Monday), and all classroom instruction is being discontinued March 23-29, its website reported, both as part of the college’s effort to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The announcements took effect Wednesday (March 11), although the college said classes for students will be held as scheduled through Friday (March 13).

After Friday, the college plans to prepare “for remote instruction in the event that it is needed.” MCCC employees will use an extended spring break (March 18-20) and the period in which classes are suspended (March 23-29) to be ready March 30 “for all classes to restart in their current delivery mode or remotely.”

An update on the delivery method for the college’s next seven-week session “will be provided when available. The continuity of class delivery is critical to the success of our students,” its notice stated.

Also Wednesday, the college said it would discontinue travel for college business, both domestic and international, through March 30 except with its president’s approval. It urged all those engaging in personal travel during the period to operate using guidance provided by the federal Centers for Disease Control. It also cautioned students they “may need to provide documentation before returning to campus.”
