Phoenixville Hospital CFO Adds Same Role in Pottstown

POTTSTOWN PA – Edward A. Chabalowski, a certified public accountant who has served since May 2018 as chief financial officer of Phoenixville Hospital, has also been appointed to the same position at Pottstown Hospital, the parent company of both – Reading PA-based Tower Health – announced.

Chabalowski’s assumption of dual roles follows in the wake of Tower’s June 16 declaration that it would layoff 900 individuals and leave 100 other positions unfilled as a cost-saving measure. It came as Tower said it lost millions of dollars in revenue as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, although announced only Friday (June 19), the company said his appointment took effect on the same day the layoffs made news.

He apparently succeeds former CFO Deb Konarski, whose picture as a member of the Pottstown Hospital “executive team” still appeared Monday morning (June 22) on the hospital website.

In a media release, Tower reported Chabalowski will be responsible for providing executive leadership for Pottstown Hospital’s budget planning and forecasting, analysis, and financial performance. During the past two years, it added, he has helped “lead the hospital’s integration into Tower Health” and strengthened Phoenixville Hospital “through performance improvement initiatives, service line growth strategies, and balanced capital allocation.”

Chabalowski previously worked as vice president and chief financial officer at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton PA, and earlier as chief financial officer at Temple University Hospital.
