POTTSTOWN PA – A Montgomery County Community College program, which since 2007 has helped high school students in Pottstown and Norristown successfully make the transition into college studies, received a $3,000 donation from the charitable arm of one of its sororities, the college reported Wednesday (July 1, 2020).

The donation from the ROSE Foundation of the Phi Beta Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. continues support for local students and families served by the Upward Bound program, sponsored by the federal Department of Education. Sixty-one students in both school districts are currently involved in Upward Bound, the college said in a media release.

Upward Bound prepares participants from low-income households, those who are first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities for entrance to college.

The foundation gift will provide pre-paid cards to local supermarkets for food, backpacks and school supplies at the beginning of each academic year, and meals for summer academy participants. It also will cover the cost of future volunteer or community activities.
