High-Tech Vending Machines Gain Visibility Here, Nationally

LIMERICK PA – High-tech medical supply vending machines, like one already in place at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets in Limerick, are attracting more attention nationwide as some begin to sell personal protective equipment deemed necessary in the age of COVID-19.

A cloud computer-controlled vending machine branded for the CVS Pharmacy chain is actively offering seven racks of items from its position at a southwest corner entrance of the food court (at top) in the outlet center on West Lightcap Road. Its current inventory of about 70 different products ranges from pain relievers to upset stomach remedies to small bags of snacks.

The machine is operated and maintained by Swyft, a company with offices in California, Louisiana, and overseas. Although the outlets’ kiosk is not currently carrying goods like face masks, sanitizing wipes, hand sanitizer, or latex gloves, machines like it from Swyft and its competitors are fast becoming important retailing points for those specific items in high-traffic transit centers.

A dozen automated coronavirus-oriented machines – four of them managed by Swyft under a continuing agreement with CVS – have been installed with Metropolitan Transit Authority permission in 10 New York City subway stations, the authority announced Tuesday (June 30, 2020). ““We want to make it as easy as possible for customers who may not have masks to get them so they can ride the subway,” authority Interim President Sarah Feinberg explained in a statement reported by the Bklyner. online news service.

A Swyft competitor, RapidMask2Go, last week set up four similar personal protective equipment vending machines at Philadelphia’s busy Suburban Station.

A global vending machines industry report issued in May 2020 said international sales revenue from machines like the one at the outlets is expected to grow by $25.6 billion by 2025, with an annualized growth rate of between 2 and 3 percent, according to Globe Newswire.
